Woodlands Themed First Birthday Party

Today is my littlest one’s first birthday! Yes, she was born the day after my eldest daughter was born (with a 4 year separation). For Noelle’s birthday, I did a whole winter wonderland theme + fairies. It was super gorgeous, and maybe I will share it here some time in the future!

For Juliet’s birthday, I decided to go with a woodland themed party. I always go big for the first birthday (after that, not so much)! Her nursery is SLIGHTLY woodland themed.  Noelle’s nursery was actually fairy themed, before we changed to her big girl set up.

We did the party a few weeks back but I wanted to share some photos of the decor and the cake smash.

Hot Chocolate Bar
We did a hot chocolate bar for this party like we did for Noelle’s it was a hit! We had whipped cream, chocolate pieces, caramel, coconut pieces, and marshmallows!
Woodland Cookies
I made these cookies with these cute cutters. I normally do a royal icing for  cookies like this but the buttercream frosting just tastes so much better that I opted for it (still dairy free though!)
Squirrel Cupcakes
Squirrel cupcakes! I used coffee beans for the ears and nose
Spinach Pom Poms
We made spinach pom pom balls as “foraged greens”, nuts as “squirrel food”, pretzel sticks as “sticks” You get the idea!
Woodland Smash Cake
The smash cake was made with very low sugar (a Simple Mills cake mix and frosting). The flowers and the deer I shaped out of fondant but those were not for eating.
Cake Smash
Juliet lasted on this setup for about 2 seconds. A moment after this shot was taken, she crawled off and knocked the cake over in the process haha!! Her headband is from an Etsy shop – Linked here

She was much happier in the high chair! Although natural cakes are typically dense, so we had to dig into it a bit for her.

Once she was happy and knew what the cake was, we put her back on the backdrop to take some more photos!

Then it was bath time to get all the cake off! In the sink!

Happy Birthday my sweet little one! I can’t believe you are one already! You are such a tiny little thing but you fill our hearts so much!
